I rebelled against my boss and got in trouble

Hi Reader,

It's been almost two months since I've published my newsletter. What happened?

I've been dealing with a variety of personal stuff, including chronic unwellness, that have taken time and energy away from creating and publishing content.

One of the reasons I originally became self-employed was to be my own boss. However, being chronically ill, I'm still not my own boss - my body is. And it's quite the unpredictable boss.

Unlike most bosses, this boss often tells me not to work. Like many bosses, it can sometimes micromanage me, and we all know how annoying that is - dictating the who, what, when, where, why and how behind my approach to work. It's a boss that I've always had, but haven't always had the opportunity to listen to, because the demands of other bosses took precedence (and wouldn't have taken kindly to being told my other boss outranked them). I'm still in the process of learning how to work with this boss after all this time. Ultimately I know it has my best interests at heart.

I talk about helping others manage burnout and recover from internalized ideas around toxic productivity. But, it's still something that happens to me, too. The support I offer comes from plenty of lived experience.

Hat tip to fellow creator and ADHD-er Struthless for being part of the inspiration to reflect on what being my own boss means, and why it can be complex sometimes.

While I was hoping to scale up my business this fall, I will need to pivot a bit. I am in the process of revising my fall offerings and will announce those as soon as they are ready. Meanwhile, though, if you are interested in anything in particular (1:1 coaching (sync or async), workshops on X topic, group coaching, or anything else), please respond to this email and let me know. I'd love to know your thoughts and support you where you are, and your feedback will help me greatly as I restructure my schedule and offerings for the fall.

I have a few free events coming up. I'd love to see you there!
